SPAN 3770, Cultures of Memory and Postmemory in Contemporary Chile, is now accepting students.

This course will explore artifacts and movements of Chile’s cultural memory—literature, criticism, film, photography, and other media—that illuminate efforts to come to terms with the country’s dictatorial past. We will also discuss these artifacts in light of the idea of “postmemory”: how affiliations to, and representations of, this past are (re)constructed in the present and projected into the future as a motor for more contemporary social movements such as feminism, environmentalism, and immigrant rights activism.

This four-credit elective course, taught in Spanish, has a study tour to Santiago, Chile during spring break. The cost of the trip is $3625, including airfare, lodging, food, and excursions. For more information, please contact Dr. Carl Fischer, cfischer8@fordham.edu.
